In a sequel to the film was finally released to the excitement of Frozen fans everywhere. Before the film was even released it became obvious that one country in particular had a special influence on the film.

The creators of Frozen 2 took a lot of inspiration for the film from the varied landscapes of Iceland. If you loved the film and want to plan your trip around some of the featured sites and sceneries in the film we recommend you keep reading!

And the giant rock formations seen in the film are nearly identical to those seen at Reynisfjara beach on the south coast of Iceland which is known for its massive and dangerous waves. Please do not attempt to walk into the waves like Elsa did in this scene. The waves at Reynisfjara are to be taken seriously. The undertow is very strong and once you are in the water it is very unlikely you will be able to make it back out.

Iceland is as its name suggests is a place where you can find great deals of ice. Ice queen Elsa enters the frozen Ahtohallan during the film which from the outside looks like many of our outlet glaciers here in Iceland. You won't be able to go inside like Elsa did - she is an Ice Queen after all!

But you can get a really great look at the area by joining a glacier hike and glacier lagoon boat ride tour! In Iceland many people still believe in elves and some can even see them! Multiple Icelanders claim to be able to speak for the elves and in the past one woman even assisted with organizing a construction site so as not to disturb any elf homes! This is Iceland's national mountain as voted by Icelanders in a poll taken in The mountain is m ft tall and has a distinct shape because it is actually a volcano which used to have a glacier on top.

The table top shape you see indicates a glaciers presence at the time of eruption. Although we don't recommend trying to walk through the waterfall you can get a pretty amazing photo in front of it. Don't forget your waterproof clothes though, you will get wet! There are quite a few picturesque canyons in Iceland. In the film we can see the continuation of a colour palette that is rather unique to Iceland. This suggestion is not so much where to visit but when to visit.

You might assume that because Iceland has so few trees the fall season is pretty uneventful here but you would be incorrect. The mountain sides light up with the yellows and reds of autumn. The company operating these tours have actually created a tunnel inside the glacier giving visitors the unique opportunity to visit the man made ice cave year round.

Photographers are met with a challenge to get both the waterfall and the mountain at just the right angle so that the unique shape of the mountain is well highlighted. Mount Eystrahorn is a very pointy horned mountain located in the east of Iceland. It is part of the Krossasnesfjall mountain range which is connected to Mount Vestrahorn. There is a really vast array of wildlife in this area during the summertime making it an excellent place for hiking.

Elsa abandons her refrain of " the past is in the past " in order to learn the truth about her parents, and unlock the secrets of magic itself.

Elsa's quest to explore her past takes her into the Enchanted Forest, a place where magic had previously run rampant. He corrupted the natural environment by constructing a massive dam, and in so doing interfered with the patterns of magic within the Enchanted Forest. The Northuldra began to suspect the truth, and as a result King Runeard instigated a conflict. The bloodshed angered the spirits, and they separated the Enchanted Forest behind an impenetrable bank of mist, and then withdrew from interacting with the Northuldra and the Arendellians.

Frozen 2 reflects the classical Greek philosophy of dividing the world into two categories: wilderness and the built environment. The Western world has traditionally been shaped by Plato, who famously stated that he was " devoted to learning; landscapes and trees have nothing to teach me—only the people in the city can do that. Anna and Elsa come to accept that perspective, and Anna ultimately destroys the dam in order to restore the natural system.

The Enchanted Forest is bordered by four massive Runestones, designed in a manner reminiscent of those constructed by Vikings at the side of graves. Frozen 2 blurs its mythology, however, by making these Runestones monuments of power, reminiscent of standing stones in Anglo-Saxon lore.

Each of the Runestones is marked with a single symbol of magical power, dedicating it to one of the four elemental spirits. Ancient Nordic peoples did indeed believe the runes were powerful, and it was popularly thought they had been a gift from the throne of Odin himself. To use a rune without proper training was to risk invoking the wrath of the gods; as one Viking poet put it, " Let no man carve runes to cast a spell, save first he learns to read them well.

Frozen 2 follows classical Western philosophy by dividing the world into four elemental categories : Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Each of the four elements has at least one spirit, with Earth as an exception because it has an actual tribe of Earth Giants. All of the elementals are lifted from popular mythology, and the most notable is the Nokkthe water spirit.

Many ancient cultures view the sea as a symbol of death, something that takes but never gives back, and in Germanic lore the Nokk is a playful and mischievous spirit that delights in drowning people. She has a much more positive relationship with the fire spirit, a Salamander named " Bruni ", who loves to have his fire extinguished by cold.

He's inspired by the Aristotlean myth that a Salamander is a creature of fire that could not be burned to death, which was disproved by Pliny the Elder in the First Century but remained common in European thought through to the Renaissance. Although "he" can manifest in spectacular form, Gale's portrayal seems to be strongly influenced by the Greek wind god Zephyrus. He's the gentlest of the Greek wind gods, and the messenger of spring.

These are common creatures in fairytales.

Frozen 2 reveals that the magical world sought to establish a new relationship with humanity, and Elsa and Anna were born to serve as a bridge between the two. Elsa is the fifth spirit, and at first the other elemental spirits are angered at her presence in the Enchanted Forest, but she either wins them over or tames them.

The film artistically represents Elsa's own rune as the heart of a snowflake, with the others on the different sides.

The Enchanted Forest isn't Elsa's final destination; she's forced to cross the stormy Dark Sea in order to reach the icy land of Ahtohallan. This is described as the source of all magic, and it appears to be very loosely inspired by the Snow Queen's Ice Palace at the North Pole in Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale.

The magic of Ahtohallan seems to be centered around the pseudoscientific theory of "water memory," which claims that water retains a memory of what it had previously contained; this is a fairly modern idea, ascribed to by proponents of homeopathy. The elemental spirits are able to tap into this magic independently, with both Gale and Elsa creating water and ice avatars that represent memory, but it is at its strongest at Ahtohallan. In an exclusive new video, Disney's "Frozen 2" co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck reveal a deleted scene that answers questions Anna still has when it comes to her parents, King Agnarr and Queen Iduna.

When Elsa is on Ahtohallan, she explores the depths of the glacier - going too far to where she should not tread in search of secrets, and ends up being literally frozen.

While Olaf isn't with Elsa when this happens, he is intrinsically and magically linked to her. With Elsa dead, Olaf's connection to her powers is gone, and so he disappears because he can no longer exist. Of course, he is later brought back to life when Elsa is too, but the full sequence of events isn't shown.

The episode features Trent Correy, Animation Supervisor for Olaf, discussing several shots he had cut from Frozen 2including those from Olaf's resurrection, which showed water droplets from leaves reforming as snowflakes.

In Frozen 2viewers do get to see Olaf's resurrection, as the snowflakes gathered up by Gale, the wind spirit, are brought to Elsa so that she can re-make Olaf's snowman body and bring him back to life.

The cut sequence adds much greater understanding of how it happened, though, showing where the water that turns into snowflakes comes from, Gale getting them, and providing a much clearer picture of Olaf's resurrection in general. The scene in Frozen 2 still works without showing the droplets on the leaves levitating and turning to snow, but it would've offered even greater clarity - and much lush animation - if it'd been kept in.

The cuts were particularly painful for Correy, who notes in the documentary that the shots of his removed amounted to around two months work. He says: " The first thing that goes through your head is definitely the hours you put in It's something you have to remember that when a shot gets cut it's not just me.

It's the story artists, it's whoever rigged these plants or the drops, it's the lighters, the tech animators Another key moment that was changed - or rather, added - was Olaf's recap of the first Frozen moviewith the exposition originally given to the adult, human characters instead.

As Lee notes in the documentary, "We had all this exposition of grown-ups going, 'Why are you here? Still, that could've been even better if they'd shown more of his resurrection scene. Described as a river "full of memories", Ahtohallan holds all the answers to the past. The river is a prominent part of Northuldran culture, who sing about Ahtohallan in their lullaby " All Is Found ". Though widely believed to be mere myth, Ahtohallan is real and takes the form of a glacier which, in laymen's terms, is a river of ice. Ahtohallan is located on the Dark Sea. It acts as something of a visual archive.

By projecting scenes from history along its icy walls, Ahtohallan allows its visitors to learn all there is to know about their past, and the people connected to them. However, traversing Ahtohallan's caverns can be extremely treacherous. As " All Is Found " warns, those who go too deep into Ahtohallan will "drown" in reality, turn to ice.

It's a peek at the man behind the curtain. In this case, the animators of Walt Disney Animation. It's a look at how that "Disney magic" is created, told through the lens of directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and their team of creatives.

Brownand Evan Rachel Wood performed their voice roles. It satisfies cinephiles with a deep dive into the process of crafting animation—how much work goes into a second blip of footage.

It also illustrates why it takes years to make an animated film of this size. The biggest surprises, however, come through the intimate moments with the creatives: Wayne Unten, an animation supervisor for Elsa, tearing up while reading meaningful fan responses to how the first movie impacted their lives; Buck opening up about the death of his son; and the subtle impact Lee has by being a female chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Before Lee sat down to write a screenplay for Frozen 2she began with a diary. And then Chris would read it and be inspired and he would do drawings. Lee shares an excerpt from her Elsa diary for the cameras, an entry that would give way to the character's "Into the Unknown" musical sequence: "Something happened to me last night.

It was the first snow of the season I think I hid it well. As soon as night fell, I made an excuse to go to bed early and slipped out into the fjords. Nature's snow is more beautiful than mine could ever be. Buck comes with an animation background and Lee a writing background. Between the diary and the early drawings, Lee says, "You kind of see Chris Buck as Elsa and me as Elsa, one's words and one is drawings. There's a benefit to working in the same building as filmmakers who created some of the most iconic animated movies of all time.

Every three months, Lee, Buck, and producer Peter Del Vecho screened Frozen 2in whatever current state it was in at the time, for directors and writers from across Walt Disney Animation. What happens in the aftermath is called a "Story Trust. Disney Animation's Story Trust is a feedback meeting where these creatives from other Disney projects can offer critique. About 11 months out from the scheduled premiere of the movie, the biggest questions were around clarity of the story. Does the voice calling out to Elsa come from a magical river at Ahtohallan or does it belong to a person? The magic of animation is that it's inspired by reality. The animators of Frozen 2 offered peeks into how they were able to capture different movements for the characters and, really, everything around them. Malerie Walters, who worked on a piece of animation for the finale to "Into the Unknown," had her boyfriend ride along on a skateboard and record her movement running and leaping on the sidewalk as research for how Elsa would chase after a glowing light.

In a later episode in the series, Alexander Snow records himself dancing in a private studio to learn how the body moves. This was used to inform the movements of Olaf. In another instance, animators gathered to record video of a scarf flapping in a fan's breeze so they could animate the garments forming onto Elsa as she transforms into the Snow Queen.

The Lopezes heard your criticisms about Frozenthat there wasn't a big musical number for Groff's Kristoff. The actor says he always thought of "Reindeers Are Better Than People" as a song, but the composers wanted to really give Groff, a Broadway star from Spring Awakening and Hamiltona proper piece. An early attempt was a song called "Get This Right. The sequence is all about Kristoff anxiously trying to propose to Anna but everything seems to be too awkward.
